New: Natural Humanist Community Constitution

New: Natural Humanist Community Constitution

Below are three fully‑formed documents built from the same philosophical core but written for three different purposes: A formal Constitution, a practical Membership Agreement and a public‑facing Statement of Values.

Each stands alone, but together they form a coherent governance and identity framework for a Natural Humanist community.

Natural Humanist Community Constitution

Preamble

We, the members of the Natural Humanist Community, unite in recognition of our shared humanity and our shared responsibility to one another and to the Earth. We affirm that compassion, equality, freedom, and ecological respect are the foundations of a just and flourishing society. Through this Constitution, we establish the principles, structures, and commitments that guide our collective life.

Article I — Purpose

The purpose of this community is to cultivate a way of living that reflects the best of human nature: empathy, cooperation, curiosity, creativity, and care for all beings. We seek to build systems and relationships grounded in dignity, non‑violence, and ecological stewardship.

Article II — Core Principles

Section 1. Equality

All members are equal in dignity and worth. No discrimination based on identity, background, belief, ability, or circumstance is permitted.

Section 2. Compassion and Non‑Violence

Members commit to kindness, empathy, and peaceful resolution of conflict. Violence, exploitation, and cruelty are incompatible with membership.

Section 3. Freedom and Autonomy

Every individual has the right to live, love, express, and move freely, provided these freedoms do not harm others. Consent and bodily autonomy are fundamental.

Section 4. Ecological Responsibility

Members commit to living within ecological limits, protecting ecosystems, and supporting sustainable practices.

Section 5. Cooperation and Shared Wellbeing

The community prioritises collaboration, mutual aid, and shared stewardship of resources.

Section 6. Democratic Participation

Decisions affecting the community must be made transparently and with meaningful participation from all members.

Section 7. Curiosity and Learning

The community values open inquiry, creativity, and evidence‑based understanding.

Section 8. Celebration of Diversity

Cultural, personal, relational, and creative diversity is welcomed and protected.

Section 9. Acceptance of Natural Humanity

Members embrace their bodies, emotions, and instincts without shame and support others in doing the same.

Section 10. Collective Action

Members commit to aligning their actions with these principles and contributing to a more compassionate and connected world.

Article III — Membership

Section 1. Eligibility

Membership is open to any person who affirms the Core Principles and agrees to the Membership Agreement.

Section 2. Rights of Members

Members have the right to:

  • Participate in decision‑making
  • Access shared resources
  • Be treated with dignity and respect
  • Propose initiatives and raise concerns

Section 3. Responsibilities of Members

Members are responsible for:

  • Upholding the Core Principles
  • Contributing to community wellbeing
  • Engaging in democratic processes
  • Acting with honesty and integrity

Article IV — Governance

Section 1. Decision‑Making

The community uses participatory, transparent processes. Decisions should be made by consensus where possible, and by democratic vote where necessary.

Section 2. Roles and Stewardship

Leadership roles, where required, are rotating, accountable, and recallable. No permanent hierarchy is permitted.

Section 3. Conflict Resolution

Conflicts are addressed through restorative practices focused on dialogue, understanding, and repair.

Article V — Amendments

This Constitution may be amended through a participatory process involving all members, requiring broad consensus or a supermajority vote.
